Program Note:
'Water Mirrors' was originally composed as a 30-minute suite for string orchestra, commissioned by Jordan Randall Smith for the inaugural season of ‘Symphony Number One’. The piece premiered in Baltimore in 2015.
The work takes inspiration from a set of poems of the same title by Nicholas Powell. The poems intertwine imagery from oceanic and musical landscapes.
This string quartet version presents material from Movements I and II of the original suite.
